The Challenge
A startup hot sauce founder needed a true leader and #2 to operate the business and growth goals.
A rapidly scaling CPG company specializing in hot sauce was struggling to find a General Manager with the unique blend of startup experience, grocery channel relationships, and DTC expertise. The competitive CPG talent market made the search particularly challenging, prompting the owner to seek Jombine’s specialized recruiting services.

Candidate Archetype: This unique opportunity needed a candidate who understands the CPG space, has passion for the product (especially hot sauce), thrives on challenges, can operate with limited resources, and has a track record of resilience and grit.
Behaviors: Resilience and grit were central, but the candidate also needed confidence, swagger, and an ability to close deals. They had to maintain a positive, engaging attitude to build strong vendor relationships, manage effectively, and connect with customers.
Motivations: We sought candidates who were intrinsically motivated by achieving goals, financial rewards, and overall growth. A self-driven, autonomous mindset was crucial, as their drive would directly impact the brand’s success.

The Outcome
Jombine sourced and headhunted over 200 candidates to fill the role. We found an ideal candidate who had experience as a General Manager in food startups and hospitality, including time at Trevor Kalanick’s Cloud Kitchen (his next startup after Uber).
