YOU SHOULDN'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER, SO WHY JUDGE A CANDIDATE BY THEIR RESUME?

Jombine started out as a project to fix some frustrating hiring points within another company that our CEO, Christopher (Topher) Deutschman's owned, Blue Sky Distributing (a wine and spirits distribution company). During a hiring campaign for his team, Chris came across a common scene...tons of resumes (mostly high-risk candidates), too many bad interviews, and not enough time to fully evaluate the best people for the job.

 

"We were a small, family-owned company....we didn't have the time or money to throw at expensive recruiters or software programs so we did everything in-house. We spent too many hours crafting different job listings in the hopes of attracting the right candidate fits. Then, even more time filtering resumes and working with candidates through our homemade pre-screening process. Then, depending on how much time we could afford to spend on our candidate pool, we'd invite our favorites in for a 30-minute interview. Sometimes we'd take risks with candidates without industry experience and sometimes we'd just strike out with a good-looking resume that ended up as total duds or career job hoppers. We spent more time weeding out the NO's than we did to evaluate the YES's."

 

After a hilariously terrible interview, we realized something...TRADITIONAL HIRING IS BROKEN!

THE AHA MOMENT

 

Wouldn't it be better if there were a hiring environment to match to pre-vetted candidates for evaluation...without the headaches of job listings, resume sorting, pre-screens, bad interviews, and mismatched candidate/culture fit?

OKAY, GOOGLE...

 

Let's try a quick Google search to see what is out there...

It turns out that there are a bunch of interesting recruiting solutions, but they're all geared towards just one group...usually the employers. This one-sided nature creates bias and decisions based on whatever is available at the time (in this case, the current candidate pool or open job opportunities).  Further searching...everything is too expensive, too niche, or too bloated. Who wants to spend thousands of dollars on dozens of different solutions - each with its own limitations and problems?

 

Our search quickly turned into an obsessive ambition to fix the way we hire. A long-term fix...one that isn't solved by just fancy software or hiring science. We wanted to create an all-inclusive solution that could be used by any employer or candidate for the benefit of best matching through culture, organizational fit, and position goals. To build the solution, we needed to completely start over!​​

STARTING WITH A BLANK SLATE...

 

To do this right, we imagined a Utopian world where things like resumes and job interviews didn't exist. There were no such thing as job applications or interview questions like, "If you were an ingredient in a salad, what would you be." We imagined the ideal hiring environment - one that was formed solely for matching talent efficiently and effectively. One that was bent on matching for things like culture, career goals, and job fit. Most importantly though, to create an environment that actually saves time, money, and headaches...not just another bloated system to add to your frustrations.

 

Over the course of many years, Jombine's founding team set out to create this environment and bust the ways of traditional hiring. Using years of recruiting and talent management experience and a team with backgrounds in Organizational Behavior, Workplace Theory, Human Resources, Recruiting, Coaching, and Psychology, we've created a candidate evaluation program and recruiting platform that helps both candidates and employers!​

JOB + COMBINE = JOMBINE...

 

A combine is defined as a group or organization that works together to achieve a common goal. A Jombine is defined as a network of hiring groups working together to best match career and hiring goals. ​

 

In comparison to the NFL or MLB Draft Combine, we modeled our systems around testing workplace talents, ability, and potential – scrutinized for the benefit of employee and employer match. Our Job Combine's are built around specific assessments and interviews that are geared to evaluating and showcasing a candidate's authentic workplace DNA and most valuable skills.

 

Candidates are given a platform to showcase their best and most valuable workplace talents. Employers are given a diverse pool of candidates that are tested through standardized and vital hiring metrics. Our Agents provide the framework, support, and coaching to ensure successful and happy hiring campaigns.

OUR MISSION..

 

This is the BEST part of Jombine! Our Agents are experienced independent recruiters and firms that are leading our hiring revolution. They are the backbone of our networks and the difference-makers in leading successful hiring campaigns.

 

It is crucial to have a human mediator when dealing with human problems. In other words, you can't cheat on understanding someone by reading an algorithm or magical interview question. We'll debate this any day of the week...if you dare!  We believe that it's all just part of the picture and it takes an experienced person to understand the overall SHAPE (Special Human Abilities, Personality, and Experiences) of a candidate to really make a long-term difference in matching talent to job. As such, a sound recruiting strategy demands the need of a mediator or agent to navigate, facilitate, and support all the important elements, factors, and metrics of successful hiring campaigns. 

 

Each Agent specializes in a specific job and industry. They're experts in their field and dedicated to understanding the intricacies and distinct needs of their specialties. Our Agents utilize the science behind our Combine to understand the matchmaking points between potential candidates and job opportunities.

 

We are evolving the nature of recruiters and have built an environment that allows our Agents to crowdsource a diverse pool of candidates using sophisticated tools to match through workplace skills, personality, and culture fit. Using the aforementioned fancy algorithms, as well as their years of experience and success matching, coaching, and supporting candidates and employers, our Agents lead the way in evaluating and coaching candidates, consulting employers and hiring teams, and successfully matching talent to job through culture, organizational fit, and goals. 

 

The end result is a hybrid (and dare we say better) version of a recruiter...one that is more focused on better hiring matches and long-term results.

To start a hiring revolution! Yes - we know we sound crazy, but we truly want to incite hiring riots where candidates stand up for their talent and employers stand to build teams through strong culture, organizational fit, and common goals.

 

Our true mission is to ensure strong teams, successful jobs, and common culture and goals through hiring decisions built by design not guesses.  We believe that companies are at their best when their teams are centered around a common core culture. Often, hiring decisions are relegated by limited timing or resources. Employers end up making rash decisions based on the available talent that happens to apply to their specific position. Our mission is to provide a diverse candidate pool that can be quickly accessed. 

 

We're just getting started, but as we grow, our diverse candidate pool will be our greatest and most valuable tool in achieving our mission. As such, we want every talented candidate on our platform. Here's why...

  1. We are bent on giving candidates a better environment. One that helps candidates showcase their best and most valuable talents for the purpose of matching to employers that align with their culture, organizational fit, and goals. We truly want to help everyone who wants it!

  2. We are obsessed with rebuilding the recruiting/hiring process and supporting a better match of talent to the job. Simple math - the more candidates that are on our platform, the more opportunities we'll find better long-term matches between candidates and employers.

  3. We can't build a revolution without people that believe in a cause. Our cause - hiring is painful and broken for both candidates and employers and there needs to be a viable and sustainable solution to support the best interest of matching talent to job. We started the snowball down the mountain and need the support to make our revolution a reality. This is just the beginning and we look forward to building our community with the crazy and awesome initial group of candidates, employers, and Agents!

Our vision is to bridge hiring science with showcasing metrics. Together, through our profiling platform, we are able to provide a better place to source candidates and match to open job opportunities - effectively and efficiently. We've cut the fat (and much of the B.S.) behind traditional hiring and created an environment that is a win-win for everyone.

 

The long-term vision behind Jombine is waiting to be revealed, but in essence, we won't stop obsessing about building a perfect environment to source, evaluate, and match candidates.

OUR GOALS...

 

To help build teams that share a common culture, organizational fit, and goals. The idea that we help form the teams that solve our global problems and create some of the most amazing products on the planet drives us each and every day and adds to our purpose of being humans evaluating humans for the sake of other humans!

 

We have some pretty ambitious goals for Jombine (hence the whole revolution thing), but first and foremost, we care to start small and focus on our mission and vision first. We're a start-up, which is basically lingo for we'll screw up and likely change a bunch over the next year or two. We are so excited, though, to start this journey and see where our dream takes us.
